Translation allows language communities access to literature from other languages and cultures.
SIL works in partnership with language communities in Tanzania to facilitate translation, into their own languages, of a wide range of language resources in various media. This may include books and booklets for educational programs, health and community development resources, stories related to culture and folklore, important literature such as Scripture texts, film scripts, and more. Working with many unique communities in Tanzania (and around the world) requires a scholarly approach based on current translation theory. Wherever possible, SIL partners with local language committees, as well as national and international translation organisations, in cooperative efforts to provide the necessary training, technical, and consultant services needed in each context.
As translated materials are completed, SIL helps each community produce and distribute publications which meet their needs.
